Some of them are pointless and while I know this debate will likely not change your mind, my feelings are that lens cleaners are one of them. There's a product for pretty much everything. I prefer to wipe my lenses as little as possible and I can find no better approach then to use my breath to achieve this. My experience with lens cleaners not only applied directly to a lens (which I know is not advised) but applied to a cleaning cloth or paper, generally means that too much or too little is applied and regardless of the quality of the cleaner, the lens must be wiped more then a simple breath lens cleaning, to remove all of the cleaner or ensure that enough is used to cover the surface of the lens. However, the 95 one is labeled as methylated spirit. Do not consume Favorit Methylated Spirit. Ideal for our alcohol burners or to use with stoves or barbecues. While I'm unaware of any specific "breath analysis" I will concede that perhaps it is not ultimately pure but as lens cleaner I can find no authoritative reason not to use it and trusted source that say it's perfectly acceptable. of 2 - Ipa Methylated Spirit - posted in Auto Detailing: I read from somewhere that IPA can be bought from Guardian Pharmacy, so I went hunting for it asking the salesgirl for rubbing alcohol.Found 2 types, one is 75 ipa and another is 95. Thanks!!! i'll go with the methylated spirit.later on i'll buy the arctic cleaner etc.To all intents and purposes it's as pure as you need and is very nearly distilled water. METHYLATED SPIRITS is 95 Ethanol (alcohol) that has been denatured with poisonous Methanol. Order before 9pm to receive your item next business day. You might as well just use a dry cloth.ģ. As an example, here in the UK methylated spirits is the purple colour solvent sold in the paint isle. It's darn near useless in removing thermal paste. I bought isoprop for cleaning electronics, now I can use it to sanitize my hands. Unless you specifically look for the 91% isopropyl alcohol, you'll get stuff that's 70% isopropyl alcohol, 30% water. Sept 11 (Reuters) - JetBlue Airways Corp (JBLU.O) said Monday it had agreed to sell all of Spirit Airlines (SAVE. 100% ethanol, aka 200-proof or absolute ethanol (not Absolut, that's a vodka with IIRC 43% alcohol.) This works well and has a minimal odor but it is expensive due to beverage taxes and is hard to find outside of a laboratory or industrial setting.ġ. This is readily available at drugstores (I think you call them chemists' shops or apothecary's shops over there in Britain) and is very inexpensive but also has a significant odor.ģ. IMHO, it works the best out of anything I've tried but has a lot of fumes.Ģ. ndustrial alcohol for general purpose cleaning and thinning some spirit based paints and French polish / knotting products. The yellow cans of Goof-Off are a mixture of toluene and benzene and are my favorite for removing thermal grease. Benzene derivatives: toluene, xylene, and mixtures of the two. This pure dissolved alcohol is used as a solvent and as a fuel for alcohol burners. Hmmm I found that methylated spirits (aka methanol, sold for cheap here mixed with a bitter purple dye so kids don’t drink it) works great. Here are some other things I've used and have had good experience with:ġ. Thermal paste is readily dissolved by most organic solvents but not water, so your 70% isopropyl alcohol/30% water swabs won't work very well due to the high water content. The search can help you find the product you are looking for or select the type from the above categories. It turns out it's just British for a non-potable, non-beverage-taxed 90% ethanol/10% methanol mixture, which we in the States call "denatured alcohol." That will work well for removing thermal paste as it is a non-polar (organic) solvent with a very low water content. I had to look up what "methylated spirit" was. Any other light organic solvent should work fine, like mineral spirits, kerosene, etc. Something like methanol or isopropanol (isopropyl alcohol) is pretty similar. Any reasonably pure ethanol is a direct substitute. Denatured alcohol is industrial-use ethanol. Or i should just use alcohol swab (contain 70% of isopropyl alcohol) ? The denatured alcohol there is just a light organic solvent. I wanna ask.i just bought methylated spirit instead of rubbing is 95% alcohol.Ĭan i use it to remove the thermal paste on my cpu? or is it dangerous?
